Family and Sibling Support

Family and Sibling Support

FRA helps families with children with disAbilities by providing information, support, and services to address their unique needs.
When a family includes a child with learning differences, siblings as well as parents experience additional challenges as well as positive moments. Siblings often have many questions and concerns about their sibling. Providing an opportunity for discussion of feelings and difficult moments, as well as learning the facts about various disAbilities can help support siblings as well as the entire family. FRA groups provide an opportunity for children to safely explore these feelings with others in similar situations.   Groups are in part possible through the generosity of Monmouth Park Charities and the Michael G. Bell Family.  There is no charge for participation.

  • Toby's Friends Sibling Support Group (Ages 4-9)

Arts and crafts, games and discussion help young children learn more about their sibling. Meetings are typically held on the last Thursday of the month during the school year at FRA’s Red Bank office from 4-5PM at FRA's Red Bank location.

    Upcoming Dates: 2/27/25

RSVP is required. Please contact Sue Levine at slevine@frainc.org to RSVP.

  • Toby's Friends Sibling Support Group (Ages 10-15)

Older brothers and sisters of children with disAbilties may have growing concerns about what the future holds for them and their sibling(s). Quarterly group meetings allow siblings to connect with one another, explore feelings together and have fun. Groups for 10-15 year old's dive deeper to discuss facts and feelings about disAbilities in general, and as specifically related to their brother or sister. We talk about the future and address the questions and difficult moments students are experiencing now. Quarterly group meetings allow siblings to connect with one another, explore feelings together and have fun.

Upcoming Dates: 2/6/25 at FRA at 4:30 - 6:00pm (pizza & soda included)

To learn more about which of the above groups is right for you or a member of your family, contact Sue Levine at 732-747-5310, ext.117.

Parent Workshops and Support Groups

From time to time, we offer workshops and support groups to address specific needs. This might include a one time workshop on providing financially for your child’s future or short term support programs such as meetings for families who are Spanish speaking and have a child with Down syndrome. Watch this space for upcoming activities.
